Knowledge Management : When will People Enter the Debate

This paper presents an overview of research and literature on Knowledge Management (KM) and argues that to date KM research is limited by its focus primarily on hard information systems. Insufficient attention has been given to the ‘people management’ aspects of KM and the complex, multi-faceted nature of knowledge and knowledge transformation. The results of a survey of KM practice in a wide sample of UK firms is presented in support of these assertions, highlighting the need to develop a more critical and integrated view of IT/IS and people management and organizational issues related to knowledge creation and
